A massive and very heavy 16" stick vase, this is the big daddy of the Delphis range. Decorated in vibrant orange with an abstract pattern in red, yellow and green.
Dating: 1976
Shape: A 16" (40cm) tall hand-thrown vase with a maximum diameter of around 6"(15cm). Printed with shape number 85.
Design: Delphis began as a studio range in 1963 and, although colour palettes were standardised in the 1970's, each piece is a unique expression by the individual artist. The range was withdrawn in 1979.
Backstamp: Printed "POOLE England" on the base together with the Poole dolphin. Backstamp 47 was used between 1966 and 1980.
Painter: Signed RS by the paintress Ros Sommerfelt, who worked on Delphis from 1970 - 1971 and again in 1976. Ros worked in-between on the Aegean range and later as a designer for Beardsley, Olympus and others until 1987.
Condition: Excellent condition, no sign of the cracking that these huge vases are prone to. |
